What is Movelat?
Movelat is a mild to moderate topical anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain relieving) preparation which, when applied to the skin, provides relief from muscular pain and stiffness, sprains and strains, and pain due to rheumatic and non-serious arthritic conditions.
These conditions affect the musculoskeletal system and include the painful joint condition of osteoarthritis.
Movelat contains the anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug mucopolysaccharide polysulphate (MPS) together with the absorption enhancing agent salicylic acid.
How does Movelat work?
Mucopolysaccharide polysulphate blocks the production of a chemical called prostaglandin which the body produces in response to injury or certain diseases. Prostaglandins are responsible for causing swelling, pain and inflammation, and therefore MPS reduces these effects. It is also able to dissolve blood clots and improve the blood supply to the skin. Salicylic acid is included in this preparation to soften keratin, a protein which forms part of the skin structure. This results in the shedding of skin cells, thereby improving the penetration of MPS. This further improves the reduction of swelling and pain at the site of application. This preparation is used to reduce the pain and swelling associated with inflamed muscles and joints.
