Hair & Scalp Care

Looking after your hair and scalp is more than just a beauty concern. Our 24 hour pharmacy has a range of products to treat any hair and scalp problems, restoring you to full health.

Dry Scalp Conditions

Whether you’re bald or have a head full of flowing tresses, there are some conditions which can affect your scalp leaving those unwanted tell-tale white flakes.

Dandruff is often blamed but there are different disorders which can affect the hair and scalp, producing similar results. Our online pharmacy has all the treatments you need to manage the underlying condition, leaving your scalp soft and your hair flake-free.

Gentle and moisturising shampoos can help with dandruff, psoriasis and eczema, locking in water content to lubricate the scalp. This can relieve uncomfortable itching and eliminate scaly flakes.

Head Lice

Head lice are more likely to be a problem if you have children in your household but it can quickly spread from one person to another. It’s therefore recommended that all people in the household are treated if one person has an active infestation.

In the past, head lice treatments were deeply unpleasant, taking a long time to work and emitting a pungent odour. Modern head lice treatments are completely different and don’t have a strong smell. They’re suitable to use on children with sensitive skin and/or asthma, and they work in just 10-15 minutes.

In addition to head lice treatments, there are also repellent sprays. These help to protect against potential infestation, and are very useful for your child if there has been an outbreak at the school.

Our online pharmacy stocks all the leading brands for head lice treatments including Hedrin, Full Marks and Lyclear.

Scalp Conditions

A dry, itchy scalp can be uncomfortable as well as leaving visible flakes of skin on your hair and clothing. There can be a number of different scalp conditions to blame, and our online pharmacy has various treatments to help.

Dandruff

This is the simplest and most common condition to affect the scalp. Distinctive grey/white dry flakes of skin become visible on the scalp and hair, caused by a rapid acceleration of skin cell renewal.

The speed of the cell regeneration causes excessive quantities of dead skin to build up, causing the dandruff to appear. The precise cause of dandruff isn’t known, but emotional stress, overuse of hair products, infrequent/over-frequent washing of hair and seborrheic dermatitis can all be a contributory factor.

Mild dandruff can normally be treated with a gentle shampoo, or a shampoo that contains tea tree oil. If this doesn’t work or the dandruff is more extensive, an anti-dandruff shampoo with active ingredients such as salicylic acid, selenium sulphide and zinc pyrithione can be very effective.

Eczema

Eczema is an itchy skin condition which can occur all over the body, including on the scalp. It’s a very variable condition which may be mild and treatable with gentle shampoos which treat the dry scalp and reduce irritation.

If the eczema is more severe you may need a stronger solution, such as topical corticosteroids.

Psoriasis

Often confused with eczema, psoriasis can be harder to treat but keeping skin well-moisturised can be a big help. Shampoos which lubricate the scalp and lock in water can help to minimise symptoms, but like eczema, topical corticosteroids may be needed in more severe cases.

Our online pharmacy has many shampoos which have been formulated for sensitive, itchy scalps including natural compounds to ease discomfort.
